What does an Amazon and marketplace agency do?

An Amazon and marketplace agency helps a brand or an online store sell on Amazon and on other marketplaces (Zalando, bol.com, Fnac, Cdiscount, Otto, Miravia, El Corte Inglés…): it sets up the account and the catalog, optimizes product listings, runs advertising inside the marketplace, chooses the fulfillment model (FBA or your own shipping) and keeps stock, prices and orders in sync with the online store and the ERP.

There are two ways to sell on Amazon. With Seller Central you are the seller: you set the price, you sell to the customer under your name and you choose whether Amazon or you ship the order. With Vendor Central, which is invitation-only, you sell to Amazon as a supplier and Amazon resells. Many large retailers run their marketplaces on Mirakl, a marketplace platform for retailers: connecting to each one works in a similar way, and what changes is the categories and attributes each operator requires.

Summary

Executive Summary

What you gain and what to watch when you sell on marketplaces.

Marketplaces put your product where customers are already searching, but they charge for it: fees, fulfillment and advertising. Selling more on Amazon does not mean earning more. That is why we work with the margin on every order, not with sales or ad cost alone, and use it to decide which products to list, at what price and how much to spend on ads.

The other problem is operational. With two or three channels open, someone ends up copying orders into the ERP, updating stock by hand and selling items that are gone. Connecting marketplaces to your store and your ERP is the same engineering as an ERP and ecommerce integration, and we run it in production at Silicium: orders that flow into SAP Business One on their own and stock that reaches the store every 15 minutes.

The catalog is the third front. Each marketplace asks for its own categories, attributes and copy, in each language. If your catalog lives in one tidy place, publishing it to a new channel takes days; if it lives in spreadsheets, every channel becomes a project. That is what a PIM system such as Akeneo is for.

  • Margin Per order and per product, not just sales
  • API Orders, stock and prices without retyping
  • 1 catalog Published to every channel with its rules

Why

One Catalog, One Stock and One Order Flow for Every Channel

Why marketplaces break down in operations and how we prevent it.

When an Amazon order is keyed into the ERP by hand, or store stock and marketplace stock are updated separately, sooner or later you sell something you do not have, and marketplaces penalize cancellations. We solve it as an integration: we decide which system owns each piece of data (usually the ERP for stock and prices, the PIM or the store for the catalog) and connect each marketplace through its API, Amazon's (SP-API) or Mirakl's, or with a connector when it fits. Marketplace orders reach the ERP just like web orders, and the tracking number goes back to the marketplace. It is the same pattern that runs at Silicium between Shopify and SAP Business One: event-driven orders, a periodic recovery sweep, stock every 15 minutes and prices every hour.

Key points

Which Marketplaces to Sell On

We choose by your product, your margin and your market, not by trend.

  1. 01

    Amazon via Seller Central

You sell under your own price and brand, on one Amazon store or several. Amazon ships with FBA or you ship yourself. It is the route most brands and online stores take.

  2. 02

    Amazon via Vendor Central

If Amazon invites you, you sell to Amazon as a supplier and Amazon sets the retail price. Less store management, more commercial negotiation. Many brands combine both models by product.

  3. 03

    European Marketplaces by Country

Zalando for fashion, bol.com in the Netherlands and Belgium, Fnac and Cdiscount in France, Otto in Germany. With the catalog translated and adapted to what each one asks for, and the visibility of your own store worked on in parallel.

  4. 04

    Retailer Marketplaces on Mirakl

Marketplaces run by large retailers give you access to their audience under a brand customers trust. Many run on Mirakl, so connecting one does a good part of the work for the next.

  5. 05

Spain: Miravia, El Corte Inglés and Carrefour

If you are bringing your brand to Spain: Miravia, the Alibaba group's marketplace with a strong focus on fashion, beauty and home, and the marketplaces of El Corte Inglés and Carrefour. We are based in Spain and work in Spanish.

How we work

How We Work

From the first listing to a channel that runs on its own.

  1. 01

    Margin and Channel Review

Which products leave a margin on each marketplace after fees, fulfillment and advertising, and which channels to start with. If you already sell on Amazon, we review the account, listings and campaigns.

  2. 02

    Data Map

Where each piece of data lives (catalog, stock, prices, orders) and how it will reach each marketplace: through an API, a connector or your PIM.

  3. 03

    Setup, Catalog and Listings

Account, Brand Registry, categories, attributes and listings with title, bullet points, images and A+. The highest-margin products first.

  4. 04

    Integration

Orders into the ERP, stock and prices out to the marketplaces and tracking back, with logging and retries. The same ERP integration we build for online stores.

  5. 05

    Advertising and Monthly Improvement

Amazon Ads with budgets set by margin, a monthly review of search terms and listings, and measurement of your store and marketplaces in one dashboard.

Who it is for

Is This for You?

This service fits when you have your own products or distribution rights and want to sell in more places without multiplying the work.

Who it's for

  • Brands and manufacturers that want to sell on Amazon under their own brand and control how it appears.
  • Online stores already selling on their website that want to add Amazon or retailer marketplaces.
  • Companies already on Amazon that do not know what they really earn after fees and advertising.
  • Businesses that key marketplace orders in by hand or update stock with spreadsheets.
  • Brands that want to open other European countries through their marketplaces.

Who it's not for

  • Resellers of other brands' products competing on price alone: there, the cheapest seller sets the margin.
  • Anyone without the stock or capacity to ship orders within the timeframes marketplaces require.
  • Anyone who only wants Google advertising for their store: our Google Ads service covers that.

The proof

The Engineering Already in Production

We have not published an Amazon or marketplace case study yet. What is in production are the three pieces this service rests on. Integration: at Silicium, a Node.js and TypeScript middleware connects their Shopify store with SAP Business One; paid orders flow into SAP on their own, a sweep every 30 minutes picks up any lost notification, stock reaches the store every 15 minutes and prices and price lists every hour. Connecting a marketplace to the ERP is that same work with a different API. Multi-country catalog: Loviux runs more than 70,000 products across 27 stores in 24 countries on Magento, with product pages written and maintained by AI in 18 languages (from weeks to one night per batch), supplier stock synced several times a day from XML, CSV and JSON files, and the real margin calculated order by order by matching supplier invoices. And product visibility: at EquiMercado we maintain the product structured data for Google Shopping.

  • 15 min From SAP stock to the Silicium store
  • 5 min Orders created in SAP that appear in the Silicium store
  • 27 Loviux stores from a single backend
  • 18 Loviux catalog languages

For the CTO

Summary for the CTO

How it connects under the hood.

Amazon is integrated through the Selling Partner API (SP-API): catalog and offers, inventory, orders and shipment confirmation. Marketplaces on Mirakl expose their own seller API, with each operator's categories and attributes; the rest connect through their API or a connector when there is no other route. Advertising reports are read from the Amazon Ads API and matched against margin.

The integration follows the pattern of the Silicium middleware: each piece of data has one system that owns it, orders by event or frequent polling with a recovery sweep, stock and prices in scheduled batches, and a log of every message with retries. It runs on your server or ours, and each marketplace's credentials are kept out of the code.

Risks and how we cover them

The Risks We Avoid

What usually goes wrong when selling on marketplaces.

  1. 01

Selling what you do not have

    Mitigation

Stock comes from a single system and reaches each marketplace within minutes, not when someone remembers.

  2. 02

    Selling more and earning less

    Mitigation

Every product and every campaign is judged on its margin after fees, fulfillment and advertising. What does not leave a margin is fixed or removed.

  3. 03

Orders keyed in by hand and ERP errors

    Mitigation

Marketplace orders reach the ERP through the integration, with every message logged and retried if something fails, as at Silicium.

  4. 04

Listings hijacked or edited by third parties

    Mitigation

Brand Registry from day one and regular checks of your listings and of who is selling your product.

  5. 05

    Depending on a single marketplace

    Mitigation

Your online store remains your own channel, with its conversion rate and SEO looked after, and the catalog ready to open another marketplace if one changes its rules.

FAQ

FAQs About Selling on Amazon and Marketplaces

What we are asked most before we start.

What does an Amazon agency actually do?

It sets up and maintains your account and catalog, optimizes listings (title, bullet points, images and A+), runs advertising inside Amazon, helps you choose between FBA and your own shipping, and watches account health. We add the integration: orders, stock and prices moving between Amazon, your store and your ERP without retyping.

Seller Central or Vendor Central: which is right for me?

With Seller Central you sell to the end customer: you set the price, control the brand and collect the sale minus Amazon's fees. With Vendor Central you sell to Amazon as a supplier and Amazon sets the retail price; it is invitation-only. Most brands start on Seller Central; some combine both by product.

What is Amazon Brand Registry and do I need it?

It is Amazon's program for brand owners. It gives you more control over your product listings and unlocks A+ content and Sponsored Brands. To enroll you need a registered or pending trademark with a trademark office Amazon accepts. If you sell products under your own brand, you need it.

FBA or shipping from my own warehouse?

With FBA you send stock to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon picks, ships and handles returns for those orders. With your own shipping you do it yourself and keep stock in one place. It depends on each product's size, turnover and margin; many brands use a mix. We decide with the real cost of each option.

How do you know whether Amazon advertising is profitable?

By looking at margin, not just ad cost against sales. A product can have cheap ads and still lose money after fees and fulfillment. We match Amazon Ads reports with each product's cost to see which campaign makes a profit and which does not. If you also advertise on Google, we review it alongside your Google Ads campaigns.

Can Amazon be connected to my store and my ERP?

Yes. Amazon orders reach your ERP like your web orders, stock and prices flow from the ERP to Amazon, and the tracking number goes back to Amazon. We do it through Amazon's API (SP-API) or with a connector when it fits. It is the same work as an ERP and ecommerce integration.

What is Mirakl?

Mirakl is a software platform that many large retailers use to run their marketplace. For sellers, it means connecting works in a similar way from one to the next: each operator's categories, attributes and rules change, but the catalog, offer and order integration can be reused.

Which marketplaces should I sell on in Europe?

Besides Amazon, it depends on the country: Zalando in fashion across much of Europe, bol.com in the Netherlands and Belgium, Fnac and Cdiscount in France, Otto in Germany and Miravia or El Corte Inglés in Spain. Each has its own onboarding and category requirements; we recommend where to start based on your product and margin.

Will selling on Amazon take sales from my online store?

It can, if you list the same product at the same price in both places without a plan. The usual approach is to use marketplaces to reach customers who did not know you and to look after your own store, with its SEO and conversion, for repeat purchases. We measure both channels together to see what really happens.

How much does an Amazon agency cost?

It depends on how many marketplaces, how many products and how much integration you need. We give you a fixed quote after the margin and channel review. Ad spend, fees and fulfillment on each marketplace are separate, and you pay them directly to each platform.

Is the Amazon account mine?

Always. The account, the catalog, the campaigns and the history belong to your company; we work as invited users. If we ever stop working together, there is nothing to hand back.
